About Caffè Inn – Milano Roastery
Milano Roastery is a name that keeps surfacing in conversations about Milan’s evolving specialty-coffee landscape. A hybrid café, bar, and roastery, it opened in February 2018 on **Piazzale Medaglie D’Oro**, right in the beating heart of **Porta Romana** — a crossroads of tertiary offices, university life, and residential calm just three metro stops from the Duomo.
After finally walking through its doors on a brisk March morning, I immediately understood why it earned third place at the **Barawards** in the bar-café category. Right from the first glance, the space reveals its identity: a **post-industrial, New York–inspired loft** with reclaimed wood from Sondrio, English seating, American ceiling fans, and a striking cobalt-blue **La Marzocco Strada** espresso machine. A mezzanine level hovers above the main room, adding depth to an already atmospheric layout designed by **Andrea Langhi Design**.
The coffee program is unapologetically focused. Owner **Carlo Russo** serves only **double extractions** — even when a single cup is ordered — because, as he told me through the steam, the double filter simply delivers the best result in the cup. The house **“Brera”** blend is a 100% Arabica composed of Brazilian, Santo Domingo, and Indian coffees, priced at an almost rebellious **€1**. For those who want to explore further, rotating single origins and a **€3.50 filter coffee with free refill** offer a gentle entry into specialty brewing.
Intrigued, I settled at a communal table, opened my laptop, and let the morning unfold. With solid **Wi-Fi**, an all-day food menu, and an aperitivo that transitions smoothly into the evening, Milano Roastery feels less like a quick espresso pit stop and more like a genuine third-place for the neighborhood — a place where craft roasting and urban Milan meet without pretension.
