Francaffè Specialty Coffee — Where Alba Adriatica Meets the Bean
A Roastery That Refuses to Settle for "Just Coffee"
There is a moment, somewhere between the first crack and the cooling tray, when a roaster decides what kind of coffee they want to put into the world. At Francaffè Specialty Coffee in Alba Adriatica, that decision was made early: no compromises, no shortcuts, no pretending that burnt beans and sugar are a love story.
Francaffè sits at Via Roma, 116, in the heart of a town better known for its Adriatic coastline than its coffee culture. That is precisely the point. The team behind this roastery didn't wait for a big city to validate their obsession—they built it here, in Teramo province, where the sea air meets the hills and the espresso tradition runs deep but rarely questions itself.
Walk in and the smell hits you first. Not the generic "coffee shop" aroma that perfumes every corner of Italy, but something sharper, more specific—the scent of beans that have been talked to, not just heated. The roaster is visible, humming in the back, and on good days you can catch the team cupping fresh arrivals, arguing over whether that Ethiopian lot is more blueberry or more jasmine. (Spoiler: it's usually both, and they're both right.)
What Francaffè gets right is the balance between reverence and rebellion. They respect the Italian espresso tradition—this is still Abruzzo, after all—but they refuse to let it become a cage. Their filter coffees are bright, articulate, unapologetically light-roasted when the bean asks for it. Their espresso blends are built for sweetness and clarity, not just crema and caffeine.
The space itself is small, intentional, alive. A few tables, good WiFi, the kind of corner where you can actually get work done without feeling like you're camping in someone's living room. Beans are sold by weight, ground to order, explained with the patience of people who genuinely believe you'll taste the difference.
And you will.
Why It Matters
In a country where "specialty coffee" still sounds like a marketing gimmick to many, Francaffè is doing the quiet, stubborn work of proving otherwise. One cup, one customer, one perfectly pulled shot at a time.
