SO Coffee Roasters is one of the independent specialty coffee roasters shaping Porto's modern coffee scene. Founded in 2019 by Lisa, Pedro and João, the company grew from a shared desire to work with coffee on its own terms. Today, SO roasts coffees from origins including Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Ethiopia and Kenya, while keeping producer relationships close to the centre of its work.
The approach is not built around one rigid roast style. Instead, the coffees move from clean and structured to more expressive and experimental. With a roastery and coffee shop in Porto, locations in Porto and Lisbon, and a strong competition background within its team, SO has become a significant name in Portugal's specialty coffee scene.

Coffee Sourcing & Philosophy
SO Coffee Roasters builds its coffee programme around close contact with producers and a clear preference for coffees with character rather than a single, fixed flavour profile. The team describes its approach as personal and relationship-led, with producers and their work kept central to the coffee.The roaster has highlighted relationships with producers including José Eguiguren in Ecuador, Patrick Murray in El Salvador, Johan Vergara in Colombia and the Barbosa family in Brazil.
Sustainability Highlights
Producer relationships, responsible sourcing and a focus on long-term human and environmental considerations across the coffee supply chain. SO also places strong emphasis on meeting producers directly and understanding the people and conditions behind the coffees it buys.
Awards & Recognition
Rui Pedrosa won the Portuguese National Barista Championship in 2022 and later placed among the top 15 at the World Barista Championship. In 2024, SO's Luiz Lahutte Motta won the Portuguese National Brewers Cup and represented Portugal at the World Brewers Cup.
