About Coffee Department

Coffee Department is an Istanbul specialty coffee roaster founded in 2013 by Metin Benbasat. Starting with its original Balat coffee shop, the company developed into a specialty coffee operation with roasteries in Balat and Reşitpaşa and cafés in Balat, Nişantaşı and Rumeli Caddesi. Its sourcing philosophy focuses on fresh-crop coffees, careful evaluation and, where possible, direct relationships with farmers. Current coffees span origins including Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, Rwanda, Indonesia, Costa Rica and El Salvador, with both washed and natural coffees represented in the webshop.
